do i have the power?
so, i was contemplating putting a new processor in my system. i've got an older computer, currently running an amd socket 939, with a 3700+. but i want to get a dual core processor for 3d rendering...so i'm thinking about picking up either an athlon 4800+ or an opteron 180 or 185 from ebay. however, i'm not sure my power supply has enough wattage
my exact specs are 3700+ athlon socket 939 asus sli deluxe motherboard xfx 8600 gts 2 gb of ram in 3 sticks one optical drive 2 hard drives belkin wireless internet card my power supply is a decent antec 480 watt one. and, of course, i'm not entirely sure how to calculate wattage. so, can anyone do what i can't? oh, and just a little add-on...any advice as to whether i should get the athlon or the opteron? or are they pretty much the same? |
