[SOLVED] CPU Shuts Off With No Warning, Please Help

I've had this problem for a few months, and I've gone through lots of things to try to figure out what it is. I'm assuming its a power or overheating issue. The specs are an AMD Sempron 3300 2.1Ghz, 1.5 gig Ram, GeForce 7800 GS OC, and a Turbolink ATX 500 watt power supply. (Just bought bran new because I thought my old power supply was the issue, it still does the same thing.)

What happens is the computer just shuts off, completely, no shutting down screen, just with a flick it goes to black. The light on the CPU stays on, and a low pitch noise (almost like a warning sound) comes from the motherboard, no fans or anything stays on but LED on the CPU.

This happens most of the time when I'm playing a game, and oddly enough, it cuts off when I'm playing games that don't even use the potential of the system. For example, it never cuts off playing Counterstrike source, but it will when playing Starcraft, Bauldur's Gate, Ragnarok Online (A coincidence that they are all sprite based?). I've done everything from playing without the graphics card, to buying a new power supply. I don't know if the RAM is an issue. I've replaced the power cords, I've plugged it into other power strips, and the wall outlet directly.

I tried to run a complete system diagnostic with nTune, and it shuts off during that as well. I'm at my wits end, I can't figure out what must be done. Any advice would be most helpful, thanks.

Re: CPU Shuts Off With No Warning, Please Help

Those temps look good, but what are the temps under load?
I would have sprung for a better psu. Take the side cover off of
the tower and point a house fan into it, see if that helps. If it does
you have narrowed it down to heat...

Wow I actually thought about that right before you posted it, replacing the power cord. I'm going to test it under the usual games I play that it shuts off in between.

Re: CPU Shuts Off With No Warning, Please Help

Okay, a friend of mine claimed to have the same problem and he said his processor fan was the problem, it was chunked out with dust. Well, low and behold I removed the processor fan to find a LARGE ring of dust blocking the air flow to the processor, I just picked out all of the dust and it works like new again.
