Ram Detection issues
Hello everyone I am having some issues with my desktop PC detecting all my ram...when I boot up it says I have 512 MB of ram. When I go to my computer and right click and go to properties the full 2.0 GB is being detected. I was not having this issue a few days ago it just suddenly happened. I will check in here often to give you guys/gals any kind of information you need. Im running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.
Gigabyte mobo GA-MA69VM-S2 4 sticks of 512mb ram. |

Re: Ram Detection issues
You can:
1. Try reseating each of the sticks. 2. Run each stick individually, see what happens. 3. Enable or disable dual channel mode (if it applies for your mobo). 4. Run them all in different slots. 5. Go to Task Manager in Windows, click the performance tab and post a screenshot of it. It's rather strange that Windows should detect all 2GB while the BIOS doesn't. Are all the RAM sticks the same? Are they high or low density? |

Re: Ram Detection issues
Thanks for replying but yea they are 2 diffrent types of memory both brands super cheap...and they are 4 512mb sticks. I just recently bought some corsair 2 gigs 2 sticks some decent ram so hopefully that helps my situation. I will post back on here to let you know the out come. And yes I tried different combos and all of that and individual they all work.

Re: Ram Detection issues
I was reading in another thread that it could be timing issues or something? How can I check the timing of the ram in my bios. Also in task manager it says I have 2095536 total physical memory
1617540 Available 404300 system cache. |

Re: Ram Detection issues
Download and run CPU-Z, which will tell you the specs of your RAM modules: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
Take note of the timings, then head into your BIOS. Under "Advanced Chipset Configuration" or something similar you should be able to adjust your timings. Change those to the highest timings out of all of your modules. However, I doubt that's of any use because if your RAM timings are too tight you'd be getting BSODs instead. |

Re: Ram Detection issues
Nope same problems....I went out and bought Vista hoping that would fix the problem but nope...same crap. Im running out of ideas...I tried taking the BIOS battery out and replacing it, ram was seated at DIMM slots 1&2 I tried 1&3 still does not work. I dont know much about computers so if you do reply to this post please make sure that I can kind of understand it...act like your speaking to a 5 year old or something who dosent know anything about computers.
