New Comp and it wont start up.

Greetings!
a few days ago I received an AWESOME gift from a friend, whom sent me his old motherboard an Nvidia n Force 590 SLI Mobo (which is awesome compared to the piece of crap from 2000 that I am somehow still running 9_9) I just had to buy the case, and Power Supply ( Raidmax Smilodon Gaming Case with uber fans) and for the power source (because the one in the tower didn't fit the Mobo) a brand new Mushkin 580

I've pieced computers together from scratch before with no problem, but this is a never ending mystery to me..
Every thing is hooked up alright, the computer turns on, all the fans run but then it gets only about 3-5 seconds of power then shuts off.
I tried turning it it on with the hard drive unplugged, the CD rom unplugged, even taking then graphics card out (( Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro AGP))

From what I know muskin is one of the top of he line PS's out there (well so I have been told, this is my first "non generic one" in my tower now. The thing is brand new out of the box :/ the fact that it IS getting power to everything leads me to believe that its NOT the PS. but again I am no expert- hence why I am here.

Any help or advice that can be given is much appreciated! as this one is truly a puzzle to solve for me.

Re: New Comp and it wont start up.

Hi,
Have you checked your CPU cooler is on correctly. Modern kit will power off to save damage to your expensive bit of sillicon. I've even known brand new pre-built PC's to suffer from this.

Failing this, power it up with only the CPU and then CPU and memory fitted. You'll need the PC speaker attached as well. You should be treated to some beeps. If so add the graphics, then HDD, and so on till you find the hangup.

My money is on the cooler though. Good luck.
