Possible ram problem?

I've been posting this on another forum, no replies so far.. it could be more of a ram problem, so here goes.

Hello.
I'm having problems with Win XP recently. The applications I've been using, which were always running ok, now crash without any reason.
I'll take few examples.
Firefox - crashes with the error message, sometimes when I run a java application (rs ) it crashes even without the message
Freespace 2,Diablo 2, both old pc games, they crash with an error message, be it unhandled exception c0000003 in D2 or a simple win error message in FS2.
Also, AVG pops a error message saying"Something bad happened in the application. error log saved in xyz.."

I don't know what could be wrong.
The recent changes in the pc was inserting a new ram ( 512 ), when I had a 256 one.

I've been doing a memory test withthe windows boot utility and every RAM section was labeled as "Succesful" except for Wmats and winwc.
The Firefox error is
AppName: firefox[Caution: ExecutableFile] AppVer: 1.8.20080.40413 ModName: xpcom_core.dll
ModVer: 1.8.20080.40413 Offset: 00039f44

Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks in advance,
-K

Try this memory test. http://www.memtest86.com/

Also, did you take out the 256M chip?
