Exclamation Running an 8800 gt on generic brand psu

i will post a snippet from one of my other posts to elp you out

intel core two duo 2.4
evga nvidia geforce 8800 gt
250 sata hd (seagate)
lite on sata dvd drive
ocz nvidia sli ready dual channel 2 gig memory kit 2x 1 gigs
xfx nvidia nforce 680i mobo
countless fans
cheapo power up 800 watt psu
full tower case (nice and glossy :) )
nothing else is to important i dont think.

long story short, games are crashing so i say to myself well , everything else works fine, only you have that cheapo psu so i call evga just to make sure, they tell me to check the power readings, and sure enough, its my psu, so i know i have to replace it, i have been told i need a nice name brand 550 watt and thats about what i was thinking to only id like your 2 cents a good wattage for a comp that probably wont be seeing any upgrading, and a good name brand that never fails (almost never). If theres any info i need to include thats missing just say the word.

Also When i put one disk in particular in my dvd drive it makes a strange clicking noise for a while and takes a long time for the cd to boot. My dvd rom drive also tries to boot the cd on my comps startup and waits til i take it out to boot into windows, should be noted that with no other disk does this happen. the offending disk is The crysis game disk.

you guys have been a real help in the past thanks!

heres the specs of the power supply:

Form Factor: ATX

Wattage: 800-Watt

Special Features: SLI Ready

Fan: 80 mm

+3.3V: 30 A

+5V: 30 A

+12V 1: 28 A

+12V 2: 28 A

-12V: 0.6 A

+5VSB: 2.5 A

20+4-Pin Connector: 1

4-Pin/8-Pin EPS Connector: 1

6-Pin PCI-Express Connector: 2

4-Pin Floppy Connector: 2

4-Pin Peripheral Connector: 8

SATA Power Connector: 4

I just want your opinion on weither or not this supply is capable of running an 8800gt because i dont want to wait two weeks to find out its the 8800 gt thats the problem. Atleast finding a good psu for a replacement is not an issue anymore. thanks!

Re: Running an 8800 gt on generic brand psu

Does the PSU have any name?

There is no generic PSU I know that is even close to OK for any PC and most will damage your hardware or worse, kill it.
