Computer boot up problems, random hangs / blue screens.

Hi Everyone,
For the past few days i have been putting up with this problem but its gotten too much for me now . I have had this computer since christmas, built myself, and have had no issues with it what so ever.

The problem is as follows: when booting the computer up, it randomly hangs / blue screens / random messages / restarts and there is no way of predicting them. Most of the time, straight after pressing the power button the monitor does nothing, the fans start whiring and then after 5 seconds or so the GPU fan starts going crazy, at which point it will never boot (trust me i've waited a while for it to do anything), to switch it off again i need to hold the button in for a few seconds like normal to power down, then i switch it on again and the same thing happens about 5 - 15 times, depending how it feels.

If i finaly see the boot up screen (press del to enter bios etc.) i don't get my hopes up, it randomly hangs on one of them screens. Sometimes when booting it also loads a screen saying 'Overclocking Failed' 'Press F1 to bios and F2 to load defaults' i've always pressed F2 on this one, as i know the defaults work. I did have it overclocked since christmas, but nothing the fans and cooling shouldn't have been able to handle (dust may have killed it though). At this point it can hang again, and after switching down i can get to the first part, swtching it on for 5-15 times again.

When i finaly see the windows loading screen, again nothing to be excited about, this is where the blue screen of death appears or it hangs again, after the auto restart after blue screen or after it hangs and i restart it, it can then go back to any of the above stages.

Sometimes while windows is booting and it has reached the desktop, it hangs or blue screens when loading programs up.

After sometimes (this morning) waiting and restarting for 45 mins it finaly starts up! once windows is booted and all programs are loaded, it runs fine for as long as you keep it on, not yet have i seen a blue screen or a hang at this part. But there is always a first.

Personaly i think that its a power supply problem, but i could be wrong, i wanted some other points of view from people who know more than i do

what supply is installed and how much of an overclock did you push?

Hmm this sounds like the overclock has put too much strain on the PSU if it is a cheaper one and has damaged the PSU. What PSU do you have in the system, brand name and wattage, also whats your system specs?
