Computer Shuts Down

Hello,

First off, I'm new to this forum, so please tell me if I need to take this question elsewhere or create my own thread.

I am having a similar problem: My computer shuts down suddenly & without warning, mostly when I try to play games. It also shuts down when I'm using Photoshop, & occasionally it'll shut down when i'm browsing the web, but that's much more rare. It never used to do this. The computer used to run these things just fine indefinitely. It's a great computer my friend built, but something is off & I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem. I'm guessing either power-supply has gone bad or possibly i need more memory, but I don't have much experience troubleshooting these things & I'd like to avoid buying something only to find out that wasn't the problem.

On advice of my friend, I installed Lavalys' Everest, so I can post my computer's specs, but I'm overwhelmed by the size of the full report. If someone would please tell me which specific specs are of interest, I will post those. I don't even know where to start...

Many thanks for your time.

-Brian

Re: Computer Shuts Down

you can only get the psu details from the label on the side of the psu
get your voltage readings from the bios
i prefer pcwizard for specs no restrictions it's free
http://pc-wizard-2008.en.softonic.com/
your cpu tempreture is way to high
redo the paste with some arctic silver
http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm
and then see where you are at

Re: Computer Shuts Down

Ok the label on the power supply says:

AC INPUT:230/115VAC 50/60Hz 10/6A

DC OUTPUT MAX +3.3V +5V +12V -5V -12V +5VSB
30A 40A 18A 1.0A 1.0A 2.5A
400W

Also, when i took the cover off I remembered that I had put a filter on the fan (not the power-supply fan a different fan). I took the filter off & watched the temps drop to 25° Celcius (77° Fahrenheit). Said goodbye to the filter & put the cover back on, temp only raised three degree Celcius...

I'm going to see if it will shut down during games & photoshop etc now. Now that I think of it, this problem did begin to occur around the time i installed that filter. If the problem persists I will reapply the arctic silver. I will check out that pc-wizard as well.

Thanks for all your help...
