Computer Shuts Down for No Reason
My computer has been shutting down all by itself quite often for the last few months. It usually only happens when I'm playing a game or using the DVD burner but occasionally it will aslo happen when the computer is just idling. I have no clue what the problem is and have heard many different things as to what the problem could be. I download the PCWizard program to give you some information to my system. I coulnd't get it to paste a print screen in this message so I attached a few files with all the information I think you would need. I will greatly appreciate any help I can get.

Re: Computer Shuts Down for No Reason
Heyy rpt62383
Lookin at ur voltages, ur computer is under specs and out of range from where it should be. Who is the manufacturer?? I would replace the PSU with somethin with a bit higher voltage.. Tha would explain ur temps which means that ur computer is under stress creating higher temps. Get a new PSU and the problem is solved.. Borrow a frienz if necessary.. |

Re: Computer Shuts Down for No Reason
The temps obtained were taken after the computer had been powered off all day long. All I did was try to play a game for about 15 minutes, then the computer kept shutting off so I downloaded the PCwizard and took the temps shortly after.

Re: Computer Shuts Down for No Reason
I really don't do much on my computer anymore except play games every now and then, burn some cd's, and browse the web. All the specs of my computer are listed in the attachments I posted and my graphics card is a Nvidia Geforce 6150. A while back I added an extra 2GB's of RAM to my computer, could that possibly be what made the power supply go bad?

Re: Computer Shuts Down for No Reason
Could be: 1)CPU overheating 2) Crazy motherboard 3) PSU
Don't rule anything out until you test all of them. Remember, MOST of the time, if it is a PSU problem the system cold restarts. If it is a CPU problem, the system shuts off. |

Re: Computer Shuts Down for No Reason
allied are poor quality and it would be advisable to upgrade but need your system specs before we can advise on it
your main problem looks like your cpu temp get a can of air and blow the dust out especially from around h/sinks and fans redo the paste on the cpu with some arctic silver http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm then see where you are at with it Power Supply Information and Selection

Re: Computer Shuts Down for No Reason
Bought the arctic silver but I cannot get the heatsink off. I watched intruction vids and everything, the thing just wont come off. The fan on the heatsink and also the heatsink were very dirty and clogged with dust and dirt. I cleaned it out and now I"m gettingidle cpu temps of around 40-42 degrees celcius. Is that around the normal temp it should be?

Re: Computer Shuts Down for No Reason
Use a hairdryer to gently warm it up, or turn it on for 20 minutes to make the TIM fluid and therefore easier to remove from the heatsink.

Re: Computer Shuts Down for No Reason
I had the computer on for well over twenty minutes. The pins that latch it on don't want to come loose and I'm afraid I am going to break soemthing if I apply too much pressure.
