Re: MemoryUpgrade
most likely your ram slots are limited to a max of 512mb ????
you could check this by going to either the corsair or crucial memory websites and input your system info into the memory selector >>>> see if they list any one gig sticks as being compatible ????

Re: MemoryUpgrade
your motherboard which is an AOpen KM266 with the VIA 8233 chipset
is maxed out at 2 gigs of ram >>>>> so "if" you have four memory slots, then the max your board will see is 512mb per slot

Re: MemoryUpgrade
Thanks for that, i went to cructial first to see what i needed, there are only 2 slots and if i try only 1 slot it says 512. I ran the test through Crucial again and it says 512 in 1 empty the other. I was hoping it was a setting i missed but i now think i might of been had, i ordered 2 x 1GB probably got 2 x 512, unless there's something else in the settings i can try i will give up. The reason i say that is that i purchased from ebay from someone with 98.9 possitive feedback and could find nothing to to discredit this ebayer. Thanks again.

Re: MemoryUpgrade
give me the model numbers off the sticks you bought its easy to verify what they are
if no model numbers are present >>>> then run cpu-z in there you will find a tab about your memory (SPD) it will tell the manufacturer / model number etc http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php it could also be you need a bios update, but that should be the last resort if you board only has two memory slots, then it will take one gig sticks although you may have a memory incompatibility but lets wait and see what cpu-z says about your sticks notice when you are in the cpu-z program / memory tab / there is a drop down menu in the upper left hand corner >>>> that allows you to change from one memory slots information to the other slots info

Re: MemoryUpgrade
ahhhh now I see your motherboard is a socket 462 (socket "A") / those boards were notorious for memory stick incompatability >>>> these series of boards and the socket 478's where the ones that forced ALL the memory manufacturers to develop the website tools known as memory selectors a.k.a. memory configurators
bascially the memory manufacturers had to test each and every motherboard model known to man kind and then they listed which of their ram sticks work with a particular board ![]() I found some ram listings for your motherboard make and model which is the AOpen MK77M-V you can then either buy the sticks from crucial or the other vendors or do an ebay search with the approved memory model numbers here are the links for both crucial and OCZ technology http://www.crucial.com/store/listpar...?model=MK77M-V http://configurator.ocztechnology.co...&modelid=50380

Re: MemoryUpgrade
i now see why your system only saw the new sticks as 512's
![]() AMD systems read the ram chips in banks a bank is actually all the memory chips on one side of a ram stick I'll bet your new ram sticks have all the little memory chips all on one side ???? which means it has 1024mb of ram all being read on ONE bank but your board is limited to reading 512mb per bank so you need memory sticks which have the little memory chips on both sides of the ram stick >>>>> this will accomodate the boards limits of reading 512mb per bank >>>> because a double bank memory stick will have 512mb on each side of the memory stick ![]() ![]()
