Hynix 512MB DDR400 PC3200 Memory
Hi I recently purchased the ram mentioned in the title. My motherboard contains two DIMM slots and takes/accepts DD400/3200 mem. When I inserted my new memory into the empty slot and tried turning on the computer it wouldn't turn on. I should mention my max memory storage is 2GB therefore it should take high density memory. However it wouldn't turn on as I mentioned. I took out the old memory and placed it in the slot on the right and the new memory in the slot on the left. My computer turned on and the boot screen recognized the mem. (read something like 1024MB..Ok) yet my computer was not able to go to windows. I also was able to go into BIOS and it identified the memory in there as well. What should I conclude from this? Is there a solution?

Re: Hynix 512MB DDR400 PC3200 Memory
It is possible that the memory came bad. I recommend you take it out of the computer for the mean time and test it to make sure it is working properly. Download a good memory diagnostics utility called "memtest" and it is free.
Put the program to a CD and boot the computer to it. Make sure you have the new ram installed when you boot the computer to memtest. Then memtest will test to see if the memory is defective. |
