wondering if i should get a ram card

hey their i am new to the forums, and a newbie in computers but i love them and their awesome :D, i know i have ddr ram and i have 2 slots, one of them 256 mb of ddr ram, and the others 512 mb ddr ram, i want to replace the 256 mb with a 512-1gb of ram, just to get the little bit of extra performance in some of my games, now my friend says its not going to work but im all like no way dude it will work, so i came here to TECHSUPPORT to find out if in theory it should work

Hello .. and welcome to the forum

What Brand/model is your pc? . . most newer ones want matching pairs to work in Dual Channel mode. You can go here and use the configuration tool to find what your pc uses and what it will hold

The ram will work, it depends on the speed to see if your performance gets higher.

No dual channel support so you can add any combination you want . . just make them faster or equal to the sticks you havei n there now.
