PC Build Issues (no response other than fans/ Led's on).
Right, after moving house my Computer stopped working. Must have been dropped or something. Anyways, after much diagnostic I concluded the PSU had gone and blow the motherboard (the smoke coming from the motherboard and the PSU not turning on an old board gave this away). I have since got a new Motherboard and PSU (and case). A lovely MATX setup. Anyways, now I have this all rigged up and nothing happens.
I have checked: Memory (in fine, tried different sets, 1 stick etc). Hard Drive doesent do anything when in and the system doesent do anything different when out. CPU: Tried two different ones (I have an old 939 card but I dont know if it still works, it certainly doesent in this board). GPU: Two different cards, one 6300Le (I think) and one 7600Gs. Both PCI-E but again nothing. All that happens when I power the thing on is the LED is on and the fan on the graphics card and the main fan turn on. No beeps, no activity, no LED power, no signal. Any ideas? Cheers, Matt |

Re: PC Build Issues (no response other than fans/ Led's on).
If you get fans and LEDs then the PSU would not be my immediate suspect (although that doesn't rule it out completely). See if you can try some known good RAM. Better yet, remove all the RAM and try and turn the computer on. See if you hear a beep code. Make sure your motherboard speaker is installed and hooked up the correct way so you will hear the beep.
If you get no beep then it is likely that either the motherboard, CPU, or power supply is the culprit. If you do get a beep (code), then the RAM could be the issue. Also, check for loose foreign objects in the case that could be causing a short. Try clearing the CMOS. Finally, what are the specifications of this computer?

Thermaltake 500w is not a recommended supply only the toughpower
it barely puts out enough amps to run pcie if in fact it does

Re: PC Build Issues (no response other than fans/ Led's on).
My old Thermaltake 420w ran my 7600GS fine for over a year.
Also; tried it in my old board with ram and a cpu and that didnt turn on. Beginning to suspect it's the CPU :( |

CPU is possible but not likely. Did you try the RAM trick I suggested yet?

Turn your motherboard speaker connector around to see if it was connected the wrong way.
If you do that and get still the same thing as everything else we have tried it is either the CPU, board, or power supply.

Re: PC Build Issues (no response other than fans/ Led's on).
Right. Last question. I've had another go at powering on the thing. No sounds, nothing. Also tried to transfer all parts to an old (and thus not sure if working motherboard). Nothing.
I am considering getting a replacement via novatech (What would they need sending back as I think all I have is box and manual). And if not will I just have to buy another? I am also considering if this is fine ordering a new 939 AMD 64X2 CPU. And if it isnt the CPU causing the issue then it can be put towards the media center I am planning to build later in the year. |

Re: PC Build Issues (no response other than fans/ Led's on).
Have you tried clearing the CMOS? If not, try that.
If you have a multimeter you can use that to test the power supply. At this point it would probably be worth it to take almost everything out except the motherboard from the chassis. Then, rebuild the computer. This will rule out something simply needing to be reseated.

CMOS reset done.
Multimeter nope :( But it doesent power on with 2 known working PSU's. I have tried taking everything out and back in several times. And nothing :( Meh. |

Re: PC Build Issues (no response other than fans/ Led's on).
Either board or CPU. I would place my bet on the board since CPU failures are more common in servers and professional workstations that are on constantly. And since you said you tried two CPUs it is unlikely that both are faulty.

Re: PC Build Issues (no response other than fans/ Led's on).
Cheers, looks like a new board for me. Probably order the same board, get the packaging together and get the one I just bought replaced. Then slowly build up a second PC for lanning with the soon to be bought LCD tv.
