Computer Switches off by itself

Hi there,

I have a serious problem with my pc. When I switch on my pc it starts up and gets to the point where you should see the windows XP boot screen but when it gets to this point my pc switches off completely.

My first guess is that my power supply has packet up.

Can anyone confirm that this is the case?

see if you can borrow a 550w+ to try in it
what is the brand that is in it
if you can access the bios check your tempretures and post them

My current Powersupply is a Premium 500W and according to my video card requirements I need at least a 650W.

Temperatures in bios is normal, no issue there.
