RAM & Mouse Problem
I have a Gateway 420GR with its native 512MB of RAM (2x 256 sticks). I recently added two 1GB RAM memory sticks advertised to be 100% compatible with my model computer.
Within days I began having mouse problems - the pointer sticks in the upper right corner. The only solution is to turn off the computer. This problem occurs randomly. I've run MemTest with no reports of failure. Is it possible for RAM to be compatible with the computer, but not with the existing RAM cards? I added the new RAM to the remaining two open slots in an arrangement said to be okay in the computer manual. Thanks |

Re: RAM & Mouse Problem
Is your mouse PS2 connection or is the mouse connected to the computer via USB? If it is usb then plugged it in to another USB slot.
Also try installing the drivers for the mouse and see if that helps alleviate your issues. |

Re: RAM & Mouse Problem
I tried pulling the original 512M of RAM. The problem still persisted using only the 2G of new RAM.
A (USB) mouse (optical) was supplied with the computer by Gateway along with a USB to PS/2 adapter. I had been using the PS/2 port on the computer along with the mouse for several years without incident. I eliminated the adapter and plugged the mouse directly into a USB port and seem to have eliminated the problem. The PS/2 conversion seems only to be a problem with the additional RAM. Thanks for the help and suggestions. Ken |
