Need help quick. Computer will not power on after GPU install?
Alright I installed a GPU in my buddies computer and I believe it was getting too hot due to the compact design of his case. In the process of installing windows the computer shut off in the middle. Now the computer will not power up. I felt the gpu and it felt pretty warm. Did I fry something? I tried removing the GPU and still does not power on. There is a green light on the motherboard that came on and I dont believe it was on before. What can i do?

What are the specs of this computer? Do you have a multimeter that you can use?
I suspect the power supply may be the issue since it usually is when you get no power up at all.

Re: Need help quick. Computer will not power on after GPU install?
I had the same problem as you, My intergrated video did not work, so I bought a graphics card, everything worked for 2 days or so. So then all of a sudden my comp turns off, I turned it back on, no use, I tried removing the graphics card, no use, turned out my motherboard kinda died (my friend said it was the power connection on my mb) but the internet lan green light is turned on so yeah, it might be the motherboard, but try another PSU first if u can buy 1 near a local store and check it, don't ask them to help u diagonose it, they cost lots of money when u can do it yourself for free, if after u install the PSU and its still like that its the motherboard (which happened to me =/).

Re: Need help quick. Computer will not power on after GPU install?
When you plugged in the new video card, did you plug in the 6-pin PCIe power connector (if the card had one)? If there is a connector present on the card you need to connect it to the power supply.

Re: Need help quick. Computer will not power on after GPU install?
I have to agree with TheMat
An older power supply may not be sufficant to power newer harware and can damage the PSU. @Zilchary Please do not Hijack a thread. Please start you own thread. That way you can get personal attention. Thanks Oldmn

Re: Need help quick. Computer will not power on after GPU install?
Problem fixed. The power supply he had was a no-name PSU which had sufficient power, but due to the "crappy" nature of the PSU when it died it fried the graphics card with it. Thanks to neweggs amazing RMA service I was able to get a new GPU. To anyone reading take my advice: don't buy crappy power supplies because they ruin expensive parts. Thanks for everyones help with this issue.
