New computer, want to upgrade ram.
I've posted this question on Yahoo! Answers, and I got a few replys. I'm looking for a bit more though. I have 2 256 MB DDR ram (200 MHZ speed, I think - that's what CPUZ says) in my computer currently. CPUZ says this about both my ram slots:
Max Bandwidth: PC3200 (200 MHZ) I am wanting to upgrade my ram by 512, therefore making it 1 GB, so I can get a little more performance out of this thing I call "the beast." (Don't ask, It's a new computer and the best I've ever owned, and the speed is great compared to my older computer) I was wondering if I can put this type of ram into my computer to boost performance by either a bit (noticeable) or a lot: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...963&CatId=1043 Can anybody tell if this will work with my computer, and will boost my performance? If you need anymore information just reply! Kind Regards! Last edited by xLostSoulx; 03-14-2008 at 08:43 PM. |

your hp supports dual channel operation. you will need a dual channel kit, made and tested for dual channel. any other ram will reduce your rigs potential

Re: New computer, want to upgrade ram.
@oldmn:
I go to some of the sites, and I find my mainboard, but I can't find the model (090Ch), is it by computer model? @speedster123: 1. How'd you know it was a HP? :| 2. I was hoping of just upgrading to a gig, cause that's the cheapest (besides the 256 and 128), but if that'll make my system go faster in performance than I'll think about it. Kind Regards. P.S: Because I'm a Kingston fan, I could go with this as well, correct? http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=84387&body=REVIEWS#tabs Last edited by xLostSoulx; 03-15-2008 at 07:36 AM. |

Re: New computer, want to upgrade ram.
I apologize, I don't know much about computers. Is Hewlett-Packard a motherboard? Cause that is what CPUZ says.

Re: New computer, want to upgrade ram.
HP is a system manufacturer.
Your Mainboard manufacturer could be different. When you computer starts up and you get the bios splash screen hit the pause button on your key board.(You have to be quick) At the bottom of the screen it should have the Mother board information.

download everest run a scan post the report if your board supports dual channel memory, and from the specs you listed on the "my system" option, then you would be wise to get the ram i linked to you from tiger direct..[new egg is a no go in canada i assume]

Re: New computer, want to upgrade ram.
The report is pretty big, so I have attached it. I know that I have Dual Channel ram, but could I also get the ram I linked in a few posts above?

Re: New computer, want to upgrade ram.
you need dual pairs, you cant mix and match and have dual channel operation, which is very important for performance.

Re: New computer, want to upgrade ram.
I have a 128 MB of ram card that I found in my basement while cleaning up. I am wondering if this ram would spead up my computer anymore (it is not a dual channel)
PC2100 ( 266Mhz) - 128 MB More information: http://denver.craigslist.org/sys/592526960.html Would this speed up my computer, or leave it at average? Kind Regard. |
