Memory upgrade issue

Recently attemted to upgrade my ram in my dimension 3000. previously had 512mb by way of two 256 sticks. Removed them and replaced them with two 512 sticks. Turn the machine on and blinking white cursor is all I get. remove one stick. Boots right up. switch sticks again it boots up. one 512 one 256 boots. no matter what combination I use it will boot fine except for the dual 512s. Anybody have experience with this? My bios and chipset are both up to date. this has me at a loss. BTW the processor is a 3.0 p4

also the ram removed was ddr 400 mhz pc3200 and the new ram is ddr 400 mhz pc3200

Re: Memory upgrade issue

Hi n8ball2013, boot into the bios and see if you manually set the memory timing and voltage. I think the voltage is supposed to be 2.6v, check the package or side of the memory for the rated timings. The 3000 supports 1gb of memory, so it should work unless it's just not compatible. What brand is the memory.
