really strange boot problem

yesterday when I tried to turn on my computer it wouldnt boot up, I was stuck on a screen thats blank save for a cursor at the top. I was frightened and thought my new computer had died or something, but after like 15 minutes, I finally see the vista loading bar and then vista gets loaded. everything seemed fine once it booted up, I restarted my computer and same thing happened, stuck for 15 minutes before it booted up. normally when I turn on my computer I would immediately see the Intel logo on my screen (because my motherboard is intel) followed by the vista loading bar and the whole boot up process takes less than a minute.

I was very puzzled, I shut down my computer, then I randomly decided to turn the PSU off and on again, and then turned my computer on, to my surprise now it boots up normally??!!!

can this be a PSU problem? I dont see how though because when it has booted up everything is fine, I can run games and anything else. and why would turning it off and then on again resolve the problem.

the PSU i am using is a antec earthwatts 500W, and I am running windows vista home premium 32 bit.

my computer specs:
intel core2 Q6600
2 GB DDR2 800
intel DG33TL motherboard
geforce 8800GT
500GB Sata2 harddrive
200GB IDE harddrive

Re: really strange boot problem

It may be going out. They usually go out slowly. If you have any more problems with it in the future, you may want to replace it.

Re: really strange boot problem

With Vista the first boot usually gives you a long black screen without any warning, and it last a long while... If it stopped happening i bet it will not happen any more. I had a friend who works at a computer retailer explain it to me when vista first came out, because it was confusing many people on their first boot
