Upgraded 1GB RAM to 2GB.... yet slower?
I thought it was time for my PC to have a little upgrade on the RAM side.
My pc used to have 2X Samsung 512mb (DDR PC3200) I bought 2X Kingston Value RAM 1GB (DDR PC3200) found on ebuyer. I installed it correctly and went to control panel and system information which shows 2GB of RAM. However, since then my PC has now become slower and struggles to run even itunes and microsoft word together without 'lagging' (juddering). I have a 3Ghz intel pentium 4 HT processor. Is there something I have done wrong? |

Re: Upgraded 1GB RAM to 2GB.... yet slower?
try using memtest (link in my signature, put it either on a floppy or a cd. If it is a CD you chose, download the ISO, and burn the image using special CD burning software - Nero, roxio, etc. The software will have a specific burn image function. If you use a floppy, the download for the floppy has a readme file that you can use for directions)
Let the test run, preferably overnight. Another thing you could try is to download CPU-z (also my signature), and check to see if your memory is running at the correct speed. Finally, try running the ram in different slots of the motherboard. |

clear the cmos, unplug-destatic hands-pop the button battery out for 30 minutes.
after, reboot-enter bios - check the timings on the sticks, [are they set for spd or auto?] also, check the voltage on the sticks let us know what you find

Re: Upgraded 1GB RAM to 2GB.... yet slower?
In CPU-Z you want to look at the memory tab, and look specifically for the DRAM frequency. Post that when you find it.
In memtest, you are looking to see if the tests will run and show any errors - if there are any errors, there is a problem with your ram. Is this a prebuild (HP, Dell, Compaq, Gateway, etc.) or a custom built (ie. home made) PC? |

Re: Upgraded 1GB RAM to 2GB.... yet slower?
Rebuilt Fujitsu siemens Scaleo P.
Memtest ran with no problems. CPU-Z DRAM Frequency = 200.8 Mhz My pc freezes for like 10 seconds every couple of minutes now its ridiculous!?!? Do you think this could be a virus? I have also recently changed to AVG anti-virus Pro (The paid one). |

Re: Upgraded 1GB RAM to 2GB.... yet slower?
Theres More:
Did half of what speedster said (The BIOS Bit). Looks like: Auto Detect DRAM Frequency is on. DRAM CAS# Latency is [By SPS] . <----- Wasn't sure if it was useful to you? |

Re: Upgraded 1GB RAM to 2GB.... yet slower?
go here and see if you have any updates for your computer pertaining to ram.
also you may want to go back into your computer and make sure nothing was knocked loose when you installed your ram - include both cables and cards. And maybe put a little pressure on your ram to make sure its seated properly.

Re: Upgraded 1GB RAM to 2GB.... yet slower?
On the old sticks it says DDR, as does it with the new ones. My computer is very similar although that is the new model.
This is the new RAM : http://www.ebuyer.com/product/55295 The old one is : Samsung PC3200 512mb DDR |

Re: Upgraded 1GB RAM to 2GB.... yet slower?
Just put old RAM back in. It is much slower than before and even slower than the new RAM. I am assuming my problem is not RAM then and perhaps a virus or my registry needs repairing.
