Re: Ram problem crucial upgrade doesnt work
Hello mate,
This is the RAM that I came up with from the Crucial site. I searched via Comp model number as standard. This appears to be the only compatible module for the computer. 1. Check to see that this is the RAM module that he has received. (You never know, the person in the Crucial warehouse may have shipped the wrong one) 2. The mother board hasn't been changed since buying the PC. (Just in case he bought the Dell a while ago then decided to upgrade the motherboard) 3. He has definitely placed the module in the correct way, as in not trying to fit it backwards. Also, and this is a long shot...I'm hoping that he hasn't damaged the module with a static discharge. Re: Ram problem crucial upgrade doesnt work
That is the one he ordered, have asked him to check exactly what he recieved, he hasnt changed the motherboard, he took out his 256mg module and tried to place the 1gb module and he says that it just doesnt fit the slot at all. He tried placing it in the second slot with the 256mb in the first slot and he said nothing happened. The second time he tried he said the pc just beeped. Asked him to put the 256mb in again and the pc booted normally. Asked him again to try the 1gb and he has insisted that the ram will not fit in the slot
Thanks for your help btw

Re: Ram problem crucial upgrade doesnt work
I'm guessing that the beeping he is hearing will be a Memory warning beep. Sounds like one of the slots may be bad. Has he tried to use the 256MB stick in both slots just to make sure that they are both working?
Here is a good place to look at to find out what the beeps mean. Is it a single beep or many in a row? P.s I am at work at the mo, so sorry if I can't reply too quickly. |
