Is this possible?
I'm using a Cooler Master RP-650 eXtreme Power but I think it's too loud.
Is it possible to change the fan of a PSU to a better/quieter one? or do I have to buy a new one which I hopefully don't have to ? Thanks for any help. :) |

Re: Is this possible?
If you aren't comfortable working around electronics where there are potentially dangerous voltages, put up with the noise until you can afford another PSU.
If you are comfortable working around potentially dangerous voltages (e.g. you have experience doing this or have a friend with experience), then yes you can change the fan to something that may be quieter. You will need to determine what size fan you PSU uses, probably either 80mm or 120mm. Then go to Newegg.com and find a replacement fan that has lots of reviews saying it is quite. You will need to make sure the new fan is installed so that the airflow is in the same direction as the original. |

Re: Is this possible?
Well I have totally NO exp in working around electronics so I'll prolly have to ask a pro to do that for me, or just simply buy a new one but my current one is sooo new that I don't really feel like buying a new one. :/
Anyway, looks like it was last night where my PSU fan was loud because it was spinning fast i guess, right now it's okay and pretty silent. I guess PSU fan spins faster when it's hot inside the case eh? If my assumption is true then i guess lowering the temperature = PSU fan spins slower = less noise? |
