Red Wires on Power Supply Burning Hot
I've been having problems with my computer lately, once turned on everything runs just fine except for the fact that the P1 connector (20 pin) is having some sort of problem. Once my computer is on the red wires (total of 4 wires) on the P1 will start warming up....then become burning hot. So hot that even the plastic surrounding them have become melted and completely charred. I am guessing that there is something wrong with the power supply but I'm not sure what it is exactly. After it becomes burning hot my computer will force a hard reboot. No warning....nothing.
I've had the computer for about 4 years now with no problems. It wasn't until the last two months or so that I've discovered this problem. Last edited by UselessPwn; 02-12-2008 at 01:49 AM. |

Re: Red Wires on Power Supply Burning Hot
STOP USING YOUR SYSTEM
![]() You could end up damaging your motherboard if it is not already. What are the specs for your PSU? Sounds like your motherboard is pulling too much current for your PSU to handle. Your PSU needs to be rated to handle everything including video cards (with their own power plug), hard/CD drives, floppies, and the motherboard. I would suggest a 600w PSU (which are common now days). BUT your motherboard may be bad IF your PSU is already the correct rating.
