Take it off or leave it alone?
First of all, my computer is currently using 512MB of RAM. It supports dual-channel memory. The thing is, I don't know what kind of brand the 512MB stick is.
I'm planning to replace the 512MB stick for a 1GB stick. Here's the 1GB RAM module that I'm getting: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16820161675 The question is: Should I take off the 512MB stick and replace for the 1GB stick? Or can I just leave the 512MB stick alone and place the new 1GB stick to the 2nd empty slot? Will I get 1512 GB of RAM on my computer if I just add the 1GB stick into the empty slot without taking my old 512MB stick or what? I know that it's better to upgrade to 2GB but all I need is an answer to the questions that I am asking. Plus this computer that I'm using right now is crap because of its integrated video card. I just want to make the computer's performance a little bit better. Thanks in advance.

Re: Take it off or leave it alone?
if you have dual channel, its best and more efficent to run in pairs of the exact same type.
You said you have 512 is it two or one stick? For a more specific answer you need to tell us your computers exact brand and model or motherboard.

Re: Take it off or leave it alone?
Sorry. There's only one 512MB Ram module installed.
My computer looks like this: http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/ema...-32081796.html

Re: Take it off or leave it alone?
your better of buying a matching pair of 512mg and selling off your old stick
the 2 512's will be faster than a 1g stick
