A little bit of an odd problem i'm having here... whenever i have many applications running (regardless of OS), my system freezes (Blue Screen's with Windows) and freezes in linux.
I suspected that this would have been a memory problem since I had many programs open at once so I ran memtest86 from my Ubuntu 7.10 livecd and let it run for a good 24 hours... came back and noticed that it hadn't produced a single error :( It seems as though my computer runs fine as long as i don't "push it" by running many applications.... this, however, is a real nuissance. Is there a way of inducing one of these "freezes/BSOD's" in Windows and tracking the event viewer or some other application to see what was the cause of it?? |

Re: OS Freezing when many applications are running
I would suggest you post your complete specs for us (motherboard, video card, CPU, etc), so we know what we are dealing with. Also, include your power supply brand name and wattage.

Re: OS Freezing when many applications are running
Oddly enough, just as I was replying to this post, the system froze again :(
This time, I was in Windows Vista 64bit when it happened and the "technical info" in the blue screen of death was the following: Technical Information: *** STOP: 0x0000007F (0x0000000000000008,0x0000000080050031,0x000000000000006F8,0XFFFFF800018534C2) Collecting data for crash dump ... Initializing disk for crash dump ... Anyways, as requested, here are my PC's specs copied from PC Wizard 2008: =================================================== Mainboard : Asus M2A-VM Chipset : AMD RS690G Processor : AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ @ 2600 MHz Physical Memory : 2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM ) Video Card : ATI Technologies Inc Radeon X1200 Series Hard Disk : ST3320620A (320 GB) Hard Disk : WDC (500 GB) DVD-Rom Drive : HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4165B ATA Device Network Card : Realtek Semiconductor RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC Operating System : Windows (TM) Vista Ultimate Professional 6.00.6000 DirectX : Version 10.00 =================================================== Power Supply: Speed Switching Power Supply 450ATX (450W/MAX) |

Re: OS Freezing when many applications are running
I think that article is strictly for x86 systems, not AMD Athlon x64's, like mine.
What would you guys suggest I do? |
