Computer Booting Problem....
Hi,
I got the following rig... AMD Athlon 64 3200+ ASUS A8V Deluxe 512 MB x 2 DDR400 RAM (Kingston) XFX 6600GT AGP Seagate 250Gb IDE Seagate 320 GB SATA BenQ 1650 Writer Antec SL-450 (20 pin) *WinXp Pro SP2 + Kaspersky AV 6 + ZoneAlarm 7 Pro* + CCFL x 1 80mm fan x 4 The problem is when I try to start my computer after it has been shut for a while with complete power switched off (Mains + UPS) then the computer refuses to boot in the first go... I switch on the power & its supplied to the PSU for a while (5-10mins) then I push the front power button then my computer boots up... Sometimes while booting the windows loading screen comes (one with the blue floating horizontal bar) & it gets stuck for which I push the reset button but the computer does not boot while cpu fan is rotating... But if I cut the power & after 2-3 mins switch it on then it boots.... Once the computer is running then there is no noticeable problem.... It runs smoothly.... Also even if I shut down the system (After it had run for a few hrs) & start again it boots in one go.... I tried with a different PSU on this system & no problem faced... So I believe the PSU is the culprit but the same PSU works fine in other computer.... This makes me confused a lot.... Another thing is that when the power is supplied to the PSU & computer is not switched on then there is a high pitch sound (Buzzing) audible from the PSU which vanishes once it boots... So what is the problem & what should i do???? |

Re: Computer Booting Problem....
Hi racy1, you should replace the power supply before it goes out and takes your system with it. Mike
Antec 500

Re: Computer Booting Problem....
The PSU transformer could be making the buzzing sound.
That is a sign that the power supply is about to fail or it can't handle the power requirements of your system and but can his. Trade with him, but if it goes out on him, he won't happy either. It's just not worth the risk.

What we find some times is that when a power supply is beginning to go" South" as we call it, is that the performance is sporatic at times. You can have it run perfectly for a bit and then the next three times it won't start. There appears to be no rhyme or reason why and when they go bad. Very recently, I had an Antec 450 do this very same thing to me in one of my extra computers. It would run fine and then I could not get one of my extra computers to boot. I put it in another computer and away it went for quite some time. PUt it back in mine and lo and behold, nothing. Finally, I put a new Seasonic I had around her in there and the computer has not missed a beat since then. I did RMA the thing to Antec and they confirmed the power supply was faulty with intermittent failure. You may have that same thing with this one. When you mentioned you tried another one in there and no problems faced, that should tell you that the power supply is failing or the one you put in there would do the same thing. My guess is that if you replace it as suggested by my team mate 2pistolpacker you will find the reasons for your problems. One cannot guarantee that, but my money would ride on that since I just went through that with a spare machine I had around here and it was an Antec 450. Is that coincidence or not? Who the heck knows, but I would put my money on that one if I were foolish enough to bet.

Re: Computer Booting Problem....
UPDATE....
Bumping this old thread with developments... I bought the PSU from a dealer which is no longer in Business & Antec does not have a Service Center in India... Now the Distri is responsible for RMA with a policy.... 1) They do not repair but refund 100% amount of invoice if the PSU needs RMA within one year of service.. 2) There will be 80% refund amount for PSU failing in the remaining tenure of warranty. Now the Distri didn't offered me the 80% as per the policy but only 70% of the invoice amount (After much haggling) citing the proper channel i.e. the dealer is no longer in business & I cannot RMA directly to them.... ![]() But I resisted explaining them I got this PSU with proper bill & its not my fault that the dealer has closed shop... Clearly they were trying to blow me off.... But after a week I got settled for 70% of invoice amount refunded to me (Not the 80% actual as per policy)... Now I got a Corsair VX450.. & hope they are better in service part..... |
