I have an HP DV9548US laptop, which came with 2 GB DDR2 5300 533(?) MHz RAM. On HP.com it says it supports up to 2 GB, but just to try it out I got a Kingston 4 GB set (2 x 2GB sticks). The new set is also DDR2 5300 but runs at 677 MHz. The computer came with Windows Vista (32 bit), which naturally doesn't support the full 4 GB. Surprisingly though, it loaded and recognized it as 3 GB RAM, which is fine with me.
Here's where it gets funny. I started the Windows Vista System Ratings, to run a benchmark. The factory RAM scored 4.5, but the new ram only scored 2.7. I pulled one of the sticks, which reduced it to 2 GB, and it still scored 2.7. What would cause the new and faster ram to run so slow? |

Re: 2 GB to 4 GB upgrade issue
not 100% sure but could be a latency issue, maybe the new ram has a higher latency than the old stuff, CL5 as opposed to a CL4
