ESD issues with computer? Not booting
Hi there. My computer that I built for myself about a year ago has worked fine. However, today, I went to push the "on" button and noticed a very slight shock of static, and my computer did not turn on. Subsequent attempts were all unfruitful, even after disconnecting house power, power supply, etc.
I fear that I harmed my computer in some way by electro-static discharge Is there any way to check, or to figure out what else the issue might be?Also, if it indeed is ESD damage, what steps would I take to remedy the situation? Appreciate the expertise and knowledge on this forum. :) |

Re: ESD issues with computer? Not booting
May be that the power supply went south. The board and other
components should be grounded through the power supply, as its plugged into the wall. Although spark may have jumped, I would try a new psu, and see what happens.

Re: ESD issues with computer? Not booting
Appreciate the help. Will try tonight.
If I'm unable to verify that the PSU is the cause of my issues, would taking my rig to a local computer repair shop for diagnosis (e.g. Microcenter, etc) be a good option? |

Re: ESD issues with computer? Not booting
If you built the thing, and it has been running, I see no reason to do
that. They will just take your money. Psu may cure it, if not worst case scenerio, new mobo, which you can do yourself. I will say that Ive never had one zap me from the power button, that is odd, but hey odd things happen.
