Need Compac Power Supply Substitute
Hi, first I would like to say thank you for having me...I need a new power supply for my Compac...the old number on the ps is 243890...I know this one is a hard and expensive one for 235W...that is why I which to find a substitute if possible...or better yet if a new power supply 24 pin connector can be modified by changing the pins to match the old ps...if this is possible how do you change the pins easily ...is there a trick..thank you for listening...

Re: Need Compac Power Supply Substitute
The power supply appears the be very expensive (150$) because of the odd form factor. Seems to be made for the compaq evo series and is about half the size of a normal psu. Theres no doubt a normal power supply would work in your machine but it probly wont fit. Also what are you referring to about the pins? It would also help to know what pc this is going to so we can search for alternatives.

Re: Need Compac Power Supply Substitute
the specs for my daughters machine are...
ps=compaq p/n243890-001 compac presario 5430US series 5000 intel pentium 4 processor 1.8ghz 1gig ram pc2100 ddr 80gb hdd 64mb nvidia geforce 2 mx graphic card 16x max dvd rom 16x max cd rw drive xp sp2 home the reason I was talking of the pins is that the 24 pin mobo connector is a compaq configuration...if I buy a ps of any other type the configuration will not be the same...thus the reason to customize the new ps connector wired like the old compaq one. |

Re: Need Compac Power Supply Substitute
I wouldn't try to mod a psu to try to make it work like the normal one. I would just buy the correct psu that was made for it. Are you sure the system needs a new psu? what problem is it haveing?

Re: Need Compac Power Supply Substitute
thank you for your response....I am really not trying to be cheap by wanting to mod a ps for my daughter...the real reason is I wanted to upgrade her with a 350w or 400w and the one that comes with the correct configuration is still a oem 235w...
the reason I think the ps has gone is because she got up in the morning and it would not turn on....if you hold the start button in the 2 inside fans will go around for a couple of seconds and then go off...the ps fan does not move...have tried the green and black wire jump and still the ps fan does not work....have I reached the right answer.....the computer is just dead.....thank you |
