Mistake PSU or mobo failure??

I just got a new case for my comp and plugged everything in

i could get the power LED to light up, but the pc will not boot.
I made sure the mobo was grounded, but there is still a possibility of shock damage to the motherboard (though i doubt it).

The only other symptom i can see, is when i turn the computer on, there is a very slight twitch from the cpu fan.

Can anyone tell me either how to diagnose this or which component is malfunctioning.

Re: PSU or mobo failure??

Hello Brock and welcome to TSF.

When you installed the motherboard into the new case did you make sure to use the proper amount of motherboard standoffs and that they aligned properly with the mounting holes in the motherboard? You should have one standoff for every mounting hole in the motherboard. No more, no less. If you install a standoff where there is no mounting hole in the board it will cause the board to shortout against the motherboard. The results would be the symptoms that you are describing, and in the very worst case hardware damage could occur.

What do you mean by "I made sure the motherboard was grounded"?

If the standoffs are ok then follow the steps in the Bench Test thread.

Post back with your findings or any questions you might have.

Re: PSU or mobo failure??

So the new case had a different kind of standoff And i didn't install them correctly. So im guessing its the mobo, on the other hand, i found out that if i disconnect the 4 pin 12V cpu power cable, the fans spin up (no post or beeps)

Also, i redid the standoffs and its the same problem, so it appears that i should just get another mobo???

Re: PSU or mobo failure??

Did you do Lindermans Bench Test?

How to Bench Test Your System

Did you change or add anything to the system other than moving it to the new case?

Reset the RAM, Video card, etc.
Double check all connections.
Clear the CMOS (Touch the bare metal of the case, Unplug the power cord, remove the battery, move the CLRTC jumper form pins 1-2 to 2-3 for about 10 secs, then move back to pins 1-2. Plug in power cord, turn on PC)

Please post your system specs as outlined in Posting Your System Specs. Please be thorough. The more info we have the faster we can resolve your problem.
