Securing High Performance

I have Intel D845 GBV motherboard in my PC. I have intel pentium 1.7Ghz processor, 256(2x128)MB RAM, 40 GB HDD, DVD-RW and using XP 2006. Now i need to update my PC for the installation of Windows Server 2003 as being a MCSE learner. Plz tell wht new hardware updates should i perform for the optimum performance.

i would say more ram maybe 2gb if the board supports it ram is cheap like $40 for 2gb
