Conflicting results from RAM test utilities - please help!
Hi Folks,
I have tried four different memory testing utilities on my PC. They are: 1. Windows Memory Diagnostic v0.9 (I think) 2. MemTest 86+ v1.65 3. MemScope v1.10 4. MemTest Deluxe v3.6 My memory fails 1 and 2 (the WStride-6 test and Modulo20 test, respectively) but passes 3 and 4. The memory manufacturer, Crucial, recommends MemTest (freeware and deluxe versions). I have swapped the memory sticks around, replaced the memory sticks with new memory, tried everything but I cannot get the memory to pass 1 and 2. My PC appears to be working absolutely fine - even when carrying out memory-intensive operations e.g. drive imaging. Does anyone have any suggestions? |

G'day dai,
Thanks for the quick reply. I'll try your suggestion tomorrow. I assume that the thinking behind your suggestion is that it highlights which stick is throwing up the errors? JPC |

Re: Conflicting results from RAM test utilities - please help!
dai,
If it's the case that testing two sticks at a time can produce erroneous results, then doesn't that mean that the algorithm being used is not representative of normal computer usage? After all, both sticks are inserted into the DIMM sockets when the computer is being used normally. In other words, if it's true that some algorithms can give rise to false positives, which utilities are the best to use when testing two sticks (or more) simultaneously? Many thanks. I really value your comments. JPC |
