RAM Question Comaptibilty

If a RAM is not compatible with the motherboard.......

Ex.
Motherboard supports 400/533 MHZ and I shove a 677 MHZ RAM

...what are the potential dangers and what will happen?

IMPORTANT! Before You Buy Memory

go to the crucial link for their ram scan advisor.
i would think the ram in question should be backwards compatible for your board.

The RAM will run at 533Mhz instead of 667Mhz
