Evil DVD won't burn.. +12V problem?

For 6 months my new LITEON LH-20A1H ran like a dream.
With no apparent reason it stopped burning.
Using NERO6, it chugs for a bit and then fails. Interestingly the disk is unwritten as it shows to be blank on testing so I think it's failing while doing some "power level" test I've heard of but know nothing about. I've tried JVC (MCC) and Verbatin media with same results.

The reason I'm posting in PSU is because I suspect my +12V rail. HWMonitor shows it taking excursions as low as 6.25V and SpeedFan, which builds a graph, shows, over a few hours of logging, what looks like a white noise signal going between 6 and 14 volts.

I can't believe this is normal but I'm uncertain since I have no other symptoms.. HD's work fine...

Would appreciate comments and/or any procedures to confirm that the PSU is the problem or any thoughts on what else it might be....

Thanks....

Re: DVD won't burn.. +12V problem?

if it dropped to 6v i don't think the computer would be running
check what the bios lists them as
check the error log for nero
what
cpu
video card
power supply details
brand wattage
amps output on the 12v+ line[s]

Dai, thanks for you attention...
I agree with you about the 6V but the fact is that it is running... i will check BIOS and advise.
I'll open the case and check details on PSU... i know it's 450W and some Taiwan manuf... but it's pertinent to note that the PSU has run the system satisfactorily for a long time...
I've attached a NERO log and an Everest Report (more info. than you wanted, i'm sure)...

Again... thanks...

PS... new at this and i'm not sure attachments "attached"... let me know...

Re: DVD won't burn.. +12V problem?

Here's the rest of the info. you asked for...

My BIOS, AMI dated 11.29.05 does not report 12V rail... all other V's look ok.

PSU is HYDRA model LP450A, +12 is rated at 0.8A.

Thanks again... and thank G.D for time zones... I'm in Venezuela .... -4GMT

Re: DVD won't burn.. +12V problem?

figured what out
nero says the burn failed at 16x
try burning at a slower speed
check for a firmware update for the drive
cannot find that psu but you posted the amps for the 12v- line
you need to post the amps for the 12v+ line

Re: DVD won't burn.. +12V problem?

agp=min of 18amps required
pcie=min of 26amps required
it's probably failing because when it goes to pull more power it's not there
Power Supply Information and Selection
also dvd drives need to be on a 80 wire ide cable with the
blue
grey
black plugs
