Hi there my computer was a
3500 64 Athlon 1gb DDR1 RAM 6800 GT xtreme 128mb foxxconn M-Board with a 450watt powersupply I have now upgraded to 6000 64 X2 Ahtlon 2gb DDR2 800mhz RAM RADION EAX1550 256mb asus n-force M-Board with the same powersupply now the problem is that i THINK all the wires are in the right place but when i switch on the computer the lights flash the fans spin for all of a second then stops dead do you think it could be the power supply or something else. I would be thankfull for any help.

That sounds like you have a motherboard post or standoff shorting out. When you put in the new motherboard, did you make sure that you had a post for every hole in the board....NO MORE, NO LESS????? Is this the same 450 watt power supply and if so, what brand name???

standoffs are what screw into the backing plate and then the m/board is screwed to
they stop the m/b from shorting out on the backing plate the screwholes are required earthing points for the m/board

soz for the misunderstanding to answer both of the questions.
yep it is the same powersupply as before, and the 6 standoffs are all good there are 3 more but there not touching the motherboard (extras incase motherboard was different size) any other thoughts. Thankyou.

they are not under the motherboard they stand alone to the side not touching any component they will not be having any effect on any component. i hope you understand thankyou.

hi there i have now removed excess standoffs and still not working, puzzling.
P.S. the green LED power light on the motherboard is always lit wether i try booting or not. hope this triggers a few helpful thoughts thankyou

the m/b light is supposed to be on it's shows power to the m/b
take it out of the case and set it up on a piece of cardboard with cpu video ram speaker and see if you get post what brand is the psu

OK Strangest thing just happened i press the on button and she just booted up and it booted straight into windows i didnt have to change anything or reinstall windows it just worked how come.
