[SOLVED] reboots/freezing 400wpsu
Hello, I just recently bought a new ATi x1650PRO from newegg, when I am playing games my frames are unstable ( for example, it'll be at 100fps then bounce down to like 50-75fps and go back to 100fps once in a while), for 400w I am running quite a lot of things.
THREE hard drives, 2 of them are currently in a raid0 1 raid card 1 DVD Burner 2 CD Burners 4 fans (2 intakes, 2 exhaust) DFI Lanparty NFII chipset ATi x1650PRO by Sapphire AGP (requires a 4pin floppy connector for fan) and a Sempron 2300+ Now I have no information about power supplies or any of that business, but anyway, I looked at my BIOS and noticed that -12v was reading like -13.6 to -13.7, good or bad? (I'm guessing that's pretty bad) Before I got this card everything seemed to run stable, and yes, I am using all updated drivers. I was thinking about getting a new power supply, perhaps 600watts? at the moment I have 3 fans unplugged, and the cd burners unplugged, and yet it's still rebooting and freezing and now my BIOS says the -12v is reading -13.58 constantly (I still guess that's pretty bad) Any help or info appreciated, thanks.

Re: reboots/freezing 400wpsu
Hell Diz_guy, your feeling correct. The high end of the 12v tolerance is 12.6v (low is 11.4v)
If consider a new PSU have a look at our Power Supply Info thread (the link is in my sig). Invest in a quality unit and rest assured that you are getting stable voltage. Some brands/models to consider are: Antec Trio, Earthwatts, Neo Corsair Seasonic PC Power & Cooling Thermaltake Toughpower series Coolermaster Igreen or Real Power Pro series Coolermaster Real Power Pro 650w $50 after MIR. Re: reboots/freezing 400wpsu
that can be a cause of low frame rates /

Re: reboots/freezing 400wpsu
I can't say that's definately the cause but it's possible. Unstable power can cause all kinds of issues, general instabilty, random reboots, unexpected shutdown, poor performance, and over heating just to name a few.
Poor drivers can also cause poor frame rates. Have you tried the latest drivers from ATI? |

Re: reboots/freezing 400wpsu
UPDATE:
hello again, just to let people know that I have solved my problems. It is definite that my power supply was causing random restarts/ blue screens/ freezing... Upgraded to a 600w power supply with 30A on the 12v rail. Now in my bios the -12 says 12.36 ![]() As for my fps, it was horrible... fps drops everywhere here and there! Tried old ATi drivers, new ATi drivers, old and new omega drivers, ngohq drivers, warcat drivers, dna-drivers, just about every driver on the net... but then i came across this russian site that also made drivers and had a lot of downloads. They were known as the n2o drivers, and my problems are just magically fixed! fps should be where it should be at and not dropping at random times. only time it drops is when it SHOULD drop, like when there are like 4-5 smokes in CSS. anyways, i researched this a lot and figured out that ATi has not so much support for AGP and will have to wait til they fix the problem, but I am sticking with the n2o drivers and will never go to any other drivers ![]() Here's the link for anyone else who may have problems. http://www.radeon.ru/downloads/drivers/ btw downloaded the latest ATi 7.12 driver pack, and MANUALLY installed these drivers thanks techsupportforum for support and i hope this post helps anyone in the future.
