[SOLVED] Choosing My DDR2-Ram
Hi Ive been trying to choose some nice new ram for my system and i realise that my ram must be identical. My motherboard is an asus P5N-SLI and takes upto 667mhz ram. So immediately i came up with this..... http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.aspx?Quicklinx=4NVP&CategorySelectedId=11150&NavigationKey=11150,385080000,4294959063,4294953914&InMerch=1
This is non ecc as the ram in my motherboard currently is not ecc (2XElixir M2Y51264TU88A4B-25C). While investigating my current ram i realised it was in fact 800mhz so i realised my motherboard must be clocking it down. Will This Affect My New Ram I hope to get and is this ram suitable for gaming? |

Re: Choosing My DDR2-Ram
hmmmmmm you missed the whole point Speedster was trying to make
the unequivocal way to determine if memory sticks are compatible is to use the manufacturers website / memory selectors there is no way to tell if OCZ sticks will play nice with the sticks you have / nobody tests for such type of memory mixingif you are running a 32bit OS then you are wasting your time getting 4 gigs of memory / 32bit windows cant use 4 gigs; it doesnt have enough memory registers! (often times 4 gigs will run; but with crippling performance) the best you can do; if it works; is to use 2 x one gig sticks AND a matched pair of 2 x 512 sticks if you use four sticks though, you must check to be sure you can bump up your ram voltage to run 4 sticks / not all motherboards allow you to tweak your ram Vdimm in such a way. personally i would get 2 x one gig sticks of DDR2-800 corsair XMS memory even though your board will kick them back to 533mhz (get the sticks that are 4-4-4-12) at least you can tweak above 533mhz with alittle voltage bumping and latency tightening personally I would stick with corsair and crucial right now; IMHO OCZ has lost a step since the conroe CPU's have arrived ? I have seen too many instances difficulty with OCZ ram on newer systems, that gets old in a hurry you can always sell off your old or un-needed sticks on ebay / DDR2 is very reasonable now days ! best regards joe
