Battery for compaq presario 900

I have noticed when I am using my laptop and the battery says I have 57% left or there abouts, and close all programs and shut the computer down( I don't put it on charge at this time). The next time I power up, it will say I have like 5 minutes of time left. I ignore this and go on using the computer and it will shut down. Obviously The computer is draining the remaining power from my battery in the OFF and closed position. This is a new battery with less than 6 hrs use and 4 cycles on it. Is anyone else having this problem or does one of the geeks in this forum have an answer for this event? Thanks for any help offered........Mike

startups and shutdowns can use more battery power than just normal running.

Gonna check on the keyboard battery controller as that site suggested.
That could be an issue.
