Ram Problems

I just got a pair of new ram today and went to install it. Everything went fine except that the bios and windows is not showing the correct amount of ram install. So I tested each of the ram separately with memtest and both of them pass with no error. However memtest detected them as 256mb when they are suppose to be 512mb sticks. Even when I put both sticks together bios, memtest, windows all detect only 256mb when it should be 1gb total. I try changing the voltage and it had no effect. I also try pairing it with my old stick of 512mb ram for a total of 1.5gb and it still reads 256mb total. I don't know what's wrong. Bios is up to date I believe and so is windows and I have no problem getting into windows. I also try clearing cmos and still doesnt read the memory correctly. Only when I use my old stick by itself it reads it correctly.

Motherboard: DFI Lan Party UT NF3 250GB

Re: Ram Problems

Howdy vremix and welcome to TSF

Take the ram back out and make sure it does say 512 on the side of the sticker. I had that problem once and I had to send it back for what I ordered..

As memtest is hardly ever wrong..

Also go into your BIOS and make sure it is set to pc 400 and not 333

Re: Ram Problems

yes it say 512mb on the sticker
already set the timings and still doesnt show correct amount

even when i put both 512 sticks together or separately still 256mb.

also im pretty sure its not ddr2 either because ocz have a different heat spreader for ddr1 and ddr2

Re: Ram Problems

Ya it wont be DDR2 as you would not be able to fit it in your DDR slots..

Hmmm. That is weird.. How long did you leave out the CMOS battery? Try doing it again and leaving it out for a good minute..

Your board supports it and 2 gigs of it so it would not be that..

I would try updating the BIOS just in case as it does say in the update "fixes a reading of DDR 400 issues..

Re: Ram Problems

Cool and quite would not have any input on your ram as far as I know. I know on my BIOS if I have cool and quite enabled my cpu fan just spins slower most of the time when it is not under load..I will look up your BIOS as it does seem like a long time in between BIOS updates for DFI

Edit.. Get the revision 504 it is the one that has this as the reaons for changing it..
