RAM question
If I upgrade my RAM to 2GB, does it need any fan cooling or anything?

Re: RAM question
No, all I recommend you do is try to match your old ram with the new stuff in terms of speed and latency as well as brand if possible

Re: RAM question
I see. I went to crucial.com and have it scanned my computer. After that, it showed the results and the suggestions to buy any RAM to upgrade. I think I'm going for a new pair of 1GB RAM chips.

Re: RAM question
Here are the results after crucial.com scanned about my RAM and all:
I have a 512 MB of RAM installed and an empty slot. Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-4200,DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-6400,DDR2 PC2-8500 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.* *Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory. Maximum Memory Capacity: 2048MB Currently Installed Memory: 512MB Available Memory Slots: 1 Number of Banks: 2 Dual Channel Support: Yes CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel CPU Family: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz Model 4, Stepping 10 CPU Speed: 3000 MHz ----------- Crucial.com's suggestion are a bit pricey. Is there any cheap 1GB of RAM chips to buy in pairs in newegg.com? I got the search results and I want to buy a good and very cheap RAM chips but I want some nice suggestions from someone. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...07858&name=1GB If you have your own suggestions or something, please do so to tell me. I appreciate it! How about this 1GB of RAM chip? Is this good to buy in pairs? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820161675

Re: RAM question
I would dump the 512 stick and grab matched set of 2gb (2x1gb).

Re: RAM question
If upfront cost is your only concern then the A-Data will probably be OK.
If you can swing a rebate, then I would opt for what Liam linked to or this for $37 after $30 rebate. Free shipping. About $10 cheaper than the Adata and a better brand. The set I linked to has a lower voltage requirement (1.9v) but looser timings. The set Liam linked to has a vdimm of 2.1v and slightly tighter timings. The tighter the timings the faster the RAM. |
