Need help with power supply
I'm new here so let me start by saying hello all.
Here is my question. I am building a new computer set up and with all the changes in the technology since the last time i built one im a little lost. I need to know what the best power supply would be for my new set up. I need on that’s good quality but gentle on the wallet. Here is the parts list so far.
Do i need 600W or more? Can i go with less W? I wont be running SLI but might change in the future. I just need one that will provide enough power to all parts and thats compatible with them as well. Thanks for any help or suggestions. |

Re: Need help with power supply
Wouldn't hurt, but you wouldn't need it. At least 500w would be sufficient. Picking up a performance PSU at 520 or 550 would suffice and work well. It's not like you have a lot of hogs there. You did start your post questioning what is the best power supply for your setup, though, and obviously 600+ is better.
But anyway, to give an example, my friend has had similar setup for about a year running on a 520w, except he's running an 8800GTX graphics card, an extra gig of ram, and two hard drives, one at 10,000rpm. I wouldn't have recommended it at the time (better to be safe than sorry, and future upgrades should always be considered), but it's worked great. Just make sure you don't go with a cheap brand if you do as well. Last edited by Fanible; 11-27-2007 at 12:58 PM. |

Re: Need help with power supply
Here is the steal of the day:
Coolermaster Real Power Pro 650 - Regular Price $139.99 now $59.99 after Discount and $50.00 Mail in Rebate. This is the real deal and a great power supply IMHO.

Re: Need help with power supply
I agree with Tumbleweed on the "STEAL OF THE DAY" and that Coolermaster REAL Power Pro is decent quailty unit too!
Now on to the king of quality: Corsair HX-620 watt (clubit.com) and the prince of quality: Antec Trio Rail 650 watt
