300W Minimum Requirement?
For a 7600 GS the Minimum Req. is 300W. The psu in my emachine T3256 is a 300w; is this sufficient? Of course it could be better- but will it still get the job done?
Thanks |

Re: 300W Minimum Requirement?
Yes that will be fine as the pus's in those machines are good for those systems..
But how many hard drives do you have? How much ram.. If you have like 3 or 4 hard drives it may not be enough power..

Re: 300W Minimum Requirement?
Emachines have a notorious reputation for bad power supplies / so much so; that when an emachines power supply bites the dust it will kill the motherboard 75% of the time !
based soley upon that fact alone, you could save yourslef some money NOW by changing your PSU now. I would look for the antec trio rail 430 watt / or the Corsair VX-450 watt or earth watts 430 watt or even earth watts 500 watt the power supply will only deliver what your system asks for / but if you have a PSU with more muscle than your system needs / then your computer will always run in an easy mode

Re: 300W Minimum Requirement?
Really I do not disagree with you, I though e machines psu's were not that bad. I thought it was HP (well I know they all have bad psu's) by building yourself standards.
Wow will have to remember that..

Re: 300W Minimum Requirement?
I have another take on this one. While the emachines power supplies are good for their systems and will run fine, there is a qualifier on that one. IMHO, they will do great for you and run the video card fine, if it came in the machine.
If you are upgrading the emachines by putting in a larger and more power hungry video card that takes more power than what came with the machine, then hold on to your billfold, because you will be buying a new power supply in the near future. emachines puts in very basic supplies that only power basically what came with the machine. They normally don't allow enough extra power to upgrade except maybe another drive or something that is not power hungry. That is my two cents worth.
