Memory upgrade recommendations please

Hi,
Since you guys helped rid my laptop of the major virus I had last year, I am now virus free thanks to avast and other tools you recommended.

However my laptop use has changed quite a lot since then and i don't think it's up to the job anymore so am looking for some recommendations on what I could do (I can't afford a new laptop right now).

My system details are:
Inspiron 1300 Celeron M Processor 360 (1.40 GHz, 1MB L2 Cache, 400 MHz FSB)
512MB 533 MHz DDR (2X256MB)
60GB (5.400rpm) Hard Drive (Not sure if this is important and I have a Western Digital Elements 300GB external hard drive for storing pics, music, files etc)
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 SP2

I recently installed Adobe Premier Elements as I have taken up video editing. Although it runs (just about) on my laptop, it is very slow and takes a long time to make changes, save back-ups etc.

I'm also thinking about gaming on my laptop as well but again not sure if it's really up to it so wanted to check that before buying any games.

What advice would you give for memory upgrades? Should I also consider video cards as well for both video editing and gaming?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks
Matt

Re: Memory upgrade recommendations please

check on the dell site for upgrades
with that particular unit with 512 of ram, video editing and game playing would be stretching the resources of the laptop.
make sure you purchase a notebook cooler for that lappy, antec makes a nice one for 20 some bucks. ..these heat up when pushed, be careful.

Re: Memory upgrade recommendations please

Thanks for the quick response. I checked with Dell and they said I can configure anything up to 2GB in the two slots available on my laptop. My choices are either adding 512MB in one slot (total 768MB), 1GB in one slot (total 1256MB) or two 1GB, one in each slot. What would you suggest?

Also, is this something I have to buy from Dell or can I go anywhere (I have very limited technical knowledge) as long as it's the right spec for my machine? Thought I might be able to get a better deal somewhere else.

Thanks
Matt
