PSU exploded
Hi,
My Power Supply recently exploded, it is/was a “HIPER HPU – 4S525” power supply. It has many, many wires petruding from it which I’ve unplugged and taken completely out of the system (do you buy these sperately or do they come attached to the PSU? apparently its unservicable inside so im guessing they come attached). I need help on the best reasonably priced (£100 or lower) new one. Ill just detail what it says on the power supply unit and what my system hardware consists of: On the PSU: HIPER High Performance Group HPU-4S525 Supports AMD & INTEL AC Input : 100 – 120Vac/200 – 240Vac 8/5A 60/ 50Hz DC Input : +3.3v +5v +12v1 +12v2 -12v +5VSB Max Output Current : 34A 34A 20A 17A 0.8A 2.5A Max Combined Wattage : 270W 360W 9.6W 12.5W 505W 22.1W Peak Load : 525W Inside my system: Foxconn Compete series motherboard 945G7MA Radeon X1950 series vid card 250GB Hard Drive sony dvd rom drive 1 x main fan, fan on motherboard and fan on vid card windows xp home Ive found what appears to be a decent card: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/sto...m=null&tm=null but is it good enough? i know pretty much everything else about pcs BUT power supplies. thanks guys

Re: PSU exploded
I'm not from the UK but alot of our techs say PCWorld is the worst place in Europe to spend you hard earned money.
Here are some better PSUs to choose from in your price range from a better Vendor. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/114941 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/114933 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/127689 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/119765 Also, this is a hradware issue so I'm going to have this thread moved to the PSU forum in the Hardware section. Re: PSU exploded
I hate to disagree with you Matt
but PC World is probably the worst place in the UK you can go to for expert computer help and good prices.

Re: PSU exploded
Usually they come on attached but if they don't you don't solder them on... they just clip into jacks.
This is a PSU which will work on your system from one of the best suppliers in the UK: http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.aspx?sku=329153 |

As for the power supply to buy. Seasonic is the Top Dog in power supply manufacturing period. All the units I linked to are made by Seasonic. The Tagan is made by Topower (I believe) a middle of the road OEM at best. |

Re: PSU exploded
You should be fine with that combination, depending on the rest of your system specs. Enter your full system specs into this power calculator, and add 30% to the total to allow for PSU inefficiency.
I chose the Sapphire model for my PC because at the time it was the only overclocked X1950Pro 256mb available. The Asus model is £13 cheaper and looks to have the same overclocked settings. Its cooling system might not be as good as the Sapphire's though. 256mb VRAM is good enough to play most new games at full settings. You need 512mb if you play at very high resolutions, over 1600x1200.

Re: PSU exploded
Check the monitor's native resolution. This gives the clearest display on TFT monitors so you'll want to play games and run apps at this resolution. If it's high then go for the card with more RAM.
