RAM not showing

hey guys, ive just bought a new computer which was a custom build. When i got it the other day and first loaded everything up im pretty sure the system said it had 4GB RAM but now it only says 3GB RAM even though there are definately 4 1GB sticks inside. I have removed each one and put them back in but still it only shows as 3GB. Also the computer has crashed 3 times since tuesday could this be the reason why and any ideas on how to get the other stick of RAM working?

Re: RAM not showing

Are you running 32bit OS? If so it will only show up 3gb of RAM

To take full advantage of the Memory you would need to install the 64bit XP/Vista or whatever OS your using.

Re: RAM not showing

Yep, your motherboard might support 4gb, but Windows 32bit does not.

I hate custom build sites they never give you any warning if you are wasting your money on an extra bit of RAM or anything and it won't work properly!!!

Re: RAM not showing

I would get a 64 bit version of XP instead of a 32 bit Vista in my opinion.

Re: RAM not showing

Wow!

The only thing with Vista is that it is not worth the money, but if you are getting it free from someone (NOT ILLEGALLY) then go ahead get it!

Mikey.

Re: RAM not showing

Well Vista is just a newer, more improved (apparently) operating system which looks sweet... works brilliant with a fast system, slightly worse for gaming than XP, but worth every single bit when it is free. :D
