PSU Problem? Heat Problem? Other Problem?

System Specs:

BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 1022MB RAM
Graphics Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GS
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit
Drive: C; Total Space: 29.3 GB; File System: NTFS; Model: Maxtor 6E030L0
Drive: D; Total Space: 286.2 GB; File System: NTFS;
Drive: F; Model: HITACHI GD-2000; Drive: G; Model: HP CD-Writer+ 8100
Antec Neo HE 500 Watt PSU
ASUS P5NSLA Motherboard
G-Power Pro GH-PDU21-MF 110x110mm CPU fan
Two 80mm case fans, outlet and inlet
*******************************************************

Situation:

Start up computer works fine... usually after playing an online game the computer will crash (as in someone unplugged the power cord, no auto restart, no blue screens, no error messages).

The CPU temp range from 40 to 55 degrees Celsius...the Manufacture’s Suggested Temperature is 39 degrees Celsius.

The Motherboard is like 30 to 40 degrees Celsius... I don't think this is a problem.
********************************************************

Actions taken so Far:

1) Reviewed the case fans, opps one was the wrong way... :) fixed & working

2) All fans, CPU, Case, Graphics Card, PSU are working at least they seem to be.

3) All fans and inside of case is clean.

4) Took the aftermarket CPU fan and heat sink unit "G-Power Pro GH-PDU21-MF" off the CPU, cleaned with Arctic Silver 2, and reapplied Arctic Silver 3.

5) Prayed...Drank...Cussed... (so far... nothing works)

Please help this novice... this is my first computer I actually built... what did I do wrong? Besides not do enough research when I built the computer.

Re: PSU Problem? Heat Problem? Other Problem?

Forgive me... but I am not sure how I could determine that... I mean if I shut down the program that seems to cuase the issues (althought it is just probably because I play that game a lot) then the temerature of the CPU does not really drop like a sudden fall off from like a surge in use...

is there a way to test that to give you that info for diagonistics?

Re: PSU Problem? Heat Problem? Other Problem?

My ASUS motherboard came with something called PC Prober II, which is what I am using to gather temperature readings... if I hold my pointer over the temperature... I do not believe this software has the ability you spoke of...

Is there another program I could use to get that kind of information?

Re: PSU Problem? Heat Problem? Other Problem?

you can set probe to monitor and keep a record of the tempreture by using the settings in history
see if there is anything listed at the time of the crash in the event viewer

use the calculator below-
from our article-

Recommended Power Supply Calculator
A power supply calculator at the bottom of this narrative is an important tool to assist you in determining the watts needed by a power supply to power a desktop computer. A calculator should not be totally relied on in the selection process; other things also need to be considered before purchasing.

The total Watts is important but the Total Amperage Available on the +12V Rail(s) is the most important, followed by the +5V amperage and then the +3.3V amperage. Because of the increased power consumption of the new high-power video cards the recommended minimum for +12V is 26A, for SLI 35A.

We highly recommended that you add 30% to the total watts the calculator determines to cover things such as peak efficiency and future upgrades. Please post any questions or concerns about your power needs on the forum so one of our Hardware Techs may offer a personal evaluation on any power supply selections or answer questions that are appropriate to your needs.

Calculator: Please select the "Go Lite" version Here for the free calculator.
