Compatible RAM

Hi, I have a compaq SR5010NX PC, and I'm looking to upgrade the RAM from 1 gig to 2. Now whenever I check one of those memory compatibility sites, it always tells me to buy DDR2 533 (PC2 4200), but I know that's kind of a low speed. My friend insists that I can get a better speed memory, but I don't know if it'll work. If I bought say DDR2 800, I'm really skeptical about whether or not it'll work. Does the speed also mean compatibility? Any help is greatly appreciated

You should stay with the same speed as what you currently have in there, it is unlikely that your computer can support faster than what was put into it. And also to mix speeds can create problems anyway

It would work but it would slow down to the clock of the lowest speed ram in the system.
