[SOLVED] power supply won't shut down

I have built a pc system using a thermaltake TR2 500 watt power supply and when I shut down the pc the power supply remains running and I can't restart the computer until I turn off and then on the main power switch on the power supply. Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: power supply won't shut down

That is really strange. Do you have a multimeter or Power Supply tester you can use to test the power supply?

The three DC output voltages as well as the Power_Good signal.

What are your specs?

Re: power supply won't shut down

It is definitely sounding like a PSU issue. The PSU is adequate for the system despite the fact that it is on the lower quality side, but it sounds defective.

There are two lines that have me particularly interested. The 5VSB which should be providing 5V of voltage even after you turn the computer off, and the Power_On, which should be providing ~5V of voltage until you push the power button, when it should stop providing that voltage.

This article is still under construction but may be of some use. Also look at this post.

Re: power supply won't shut down

Thanks for your input. You indicate the PSU is on the low quality side. What PSU would you recommend instead?
