(Resolved) Couple Questions Regarding OCZ GameXStream PSU!

I wanted to purchase an OCZ 700w GameXStream PSU for my PC but everywhere I look online is out of stock so I have a couple questions:

1) Is the 600w just as good an investment as the 700w for my current system (shown below)?

2) Are there any similar PSU's to the 700w OCZ GameXStream?

My current system:

OS - Windows XP Pro (Vista in a week)
CPU - Intel Pentium D 2.8Ghz
Ram - 2gb DDR 2
Video Card - 640mb Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS
PSU at the moment - http://www.trust.com/products/default.aspx?item=15317

I'm in the UK by the way.

Re: Couple Questions Regarding OCZ GameXStream PSU!

well actually my opinion (and its widely shared accross the internet) is the OCZ gamerxstream 700 watt is a "medium' level PSU

its not a bad unit and its not a great unit

for the money of the OCZ 700 you can buy a better unit

Antec Trio Rail 650 watt >>>>> Super choice COMPUSA has these on special until saturday

Thermaltake ToughPower 750 >>>>> this is a $150.00 PSU normally I have seen and bought some production overstock of these units for $87.00 on Mwave.com / click the refurbished button / then click on the cases and power supplies

an Awesome choice is the Corsair HX-620 Watt [cant be beat here !!!!!]
http://www.clubit.com/product_detail...emno=CA6200027

all of these are cerfied by Nvidea SLI Zone to run the 8800 GTS in SLI configuration !

I found both the Antec & the toughtpower PSU's. The toughpower is cheaper though even though you said it's better than the Antec, I wonder why that is

It's just that I'd heard so mcuh great stuff about the OCZ GameXStream 700w that I'm beginning to get a bit worried about buying something which somebody claims to be better. Don't get me wrong, you are probably right about them being better but as I said, I've heard so much about the OCZ PSU and nothing about the PSU's you mentioned so I'm a bit sceptical really.

Unfortunately the Corsair is out of my price range though.

Re: Couple Questions Regarding OCZ GameXStream PSU!

I think I'm gonna go with the thermaltake PSU as it's around the same price as the OCZ PSU.

Just to double check, are you SURE it is better than the OCZ PSU haha. I only ask, because you & the poster above you are the first people to mention this PSU to me and it's from a company I'm not familiar with

research is all the fun >>>>> and I dont blame you

make sure the Thermaltake you are pricing is the toughpower and not the garbage model PURE power

Re: Couple Questions Regarding OCZ GameXStream PSU!

pay attention to this note in the 11 PSU review

quote"

The FSP Epsilons have a couple other drawbacks besides the mentioned instability (the Zalman models are actually based on this platform from FSP). First, they do not fit within the allowable maximum of the output voltage ripple. And second, they are rather noisy at work. So, although I was very pleased with first models from the Epsilon series, the development of the series has taken a wrong way since then.

The OCZ GameXstream is acutally made by FSP and its the Epsilon model as verifed by numerous sources

Thumbs Up Re: Couple Questions Regarding OCZ GameXStream PSU!

Posted about the OCZ GameXStream:

Quote:
Unfortunately, unless you're particularly partial to blue LEDs, there isn't much else to get excited about
Now I have to admit, what was really drawing me to that particular PSU was the pretty blue lights hahaha

I read through the conclusions and some other parts of those reviews you posted & it seems that the thermaltake PSU actually IS better than the OCZ PSU. I found it cheaper aswell.

I've had problems with Antec PSU's in the past. They're probably not bad & it was just my system etc that was to blame but the thermaltake is better anyway according to you & it's cheaper still so yeah I'm gonna go with the thermaltake.

Thanks so much for all your help, that's great!

Well having just spent so much on a new Video Card I didn't want to risk anything with my current PSU.

Haha thanks. Although now I have the upgrade itch & it needs to be scratched

Was just told that my new card is severely bottlenecked by my CPU, which means I'm gonna have to buy a Core 2 Duo soon. More money
