[SOLVED] RAM issues incompatible or not???
I have 2 sticks of RAM here and only 2 RAM slots on my computer. One stick of RAM has only one side with black chips on it and it is a Kingston ValueRAM KVR-PC133/256-R on the package it says it is a 256MB PC133 DIMM CL3 (Retail). The other has the black chips on both sides and on the label of the RAM it says 256MB-PC100/133 and on the other label that is on the RAM it says PC133 256MB SDRAM 16Mx8 SPD and I don't know what the CL Rating is of this one or the brand of it except on the chips it says USI. My motherboard is a Intel® Desktop Board CA810E
I looked into the website for my motherboard and it says it should support this amount of RAM so I don't have any clue what my motherboard's problem is. If you need further info just ask me and I will give it to you. |

Re: RAM issues incompatible or not???
It is only showing up as 128MB in memory bank 1 and 256MB in memory bank 2 in bios. In Windows it is showing as 128MBs.

Re: RAM issues incompatible or not???
You mean total? You mixing RAM, which isn't the best idea. I don't know about the valueram, but it doesn't seem very good to me, just by the name. In looking at your mobo it says some memory will be used for video memory, which isn't unusual. So, are you only showing 128mbs for total memory?
Edit: From what I see about your mobo you need to be using the ram that has chips on both sides, if I am reading correctly. Maybe someone more intuned with memory can pipe in on that one.

Re: RAM issues incompatible or not???
Before any of this happened I only had 256MBs of RAM 2x128MB sticks. And it did not show 1MB less of the amount of RAM I had. Besides that I have a PCI Graphics card and the built in one disabled in Windows. I am going to be testing these sticks of RAM on other computers here at school.

Re: RAM issues incompatible or not???
If the onboard graphics card is disable then you shouldn't be noticing anything. The Valueram is probably cheap ram and causing problems. We see what your tests show.

Re: RAM issues incompatible or not???
Well I just tested these RAM sticks in a Older Compaq Deskpro Computer here at school and it showed the 512MBs of RAM in bios with no problem. Is it possible my motherboards memory banks for the RAM are going out???

Re: RAM issues incompatible or not???
I don't think your mobo can recognize it. Let me find someone with more knowledge about memory.

Re: RAM issues incompatible or not???
Well I don't know about that pc100 RAM only because I have in there currently 2x128MB sticks in there. But thanks for the help. I am going to just see if I can swap a tower here at school. I just hope he doesn't care, this is where I got the tower in the first place they were getting rid of old computers. Thank you all that helped me I really appreciate it. I just can't believe I can't solve this even though I am extremely good with computers. And also going to school for them.

I'm not seeing any reason why you can't. BTW, next time just start your own thread, so everyone knows its not a response to the original op

There is nothing to solve here. You just have to use the correct RAM for this Mobo. This Mobo will handle up to 512MB, but not the way you have it configured. It is not a good idea to MIX Ram on any machine. The problem here is you have mixed the ram and the mobo can't handle it. Some mobo you can do this with, in this case it will not let you. Thanks, Bill |
